For a bakery, a florist, a kirana or a cloud kitchen, "delivered in 3–5 days" is not delivery at all. Customers want it today — often within the hour. Until recently that meant hiring a delivery boy or booking a rider app by hand for every order. Connecting an instant-rider service to your online store makes the rider part of checkout and the order, the same way a courier is.
What is the quickest way to offer same-day delivery?
On a Storzu store you can connect two instant-rider services from Dashboard → Shipping & delivery partners:
- Borzo (formerly WeFast) — a direct connection. Create a Borzo business account, copy the API token and Callback Secret Key from its API settings, and paste them in. You can start with a Borzo test account to try the flow; a live business account may need Borzo to switch on API access once.
- Shiprocket Quick — hyperlocal riders that come through your Shiprocket connection. If you already ship by courier with Shiprocket, there is nothing extra to sign up for.
Then choose your delivery speed, pin your store on the map, and add packed weights. From that point checkout prices a rider for each nearby buyer, and you book it from the order.
Should I use my own delivery boy, a rider service, or a courier?
| What matters | Own delivery person | Instant rider (Borzo / Shiprocket Quick) | Courier (Shiprocket) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Speed | As fast as your person is free | Same day, picked up and taken straight there | Days, through sorting hubs |
| Cost | Salary or per-trip pay, busy or idle | Per order, quoted on distance and parcel | Per parcel, on weight and zone |
| Reach | The few areas one person can cover | Nearby addresses in cities the provider serves | Serviceable PINs across India |
| Best for | Dense, repeat local routes | Food, groceries, cakes, flowers, last-minute gifts | Packaged goods to other cities |
| Tracking | Phone calls | Live tracking link sent to the customer | Courier scans on the order-tracking page |
| Cash on delivery | Your person collects it | Not something to promise — prefer UPI | Only where couriers collect cash for that PIN |
| Breaks down when | Orders spike or the person is off | The buyer is outside rider range | The product cannot wait or travel |
Many shops end up with two: riders for the neighbourhood and couriers for the rest of India, or their own person for regular routes and a rider for overflow and rush orders.
How do I choose between riders and couriers for each order?
You set one delivery speed for the store, and checkout applies it per address:
- Courier — every order goes by courier. Right for fashion, electronics and anything that ships across India.
- Instant rider — riders only, to nearby addresses. Right for restaurants, food and groceries; food and grocery stores start on this setting.
- Rider nearby, courier farther — buyers within rider range get a same-day rider, everyone else gets a courier. Right for bakeries, sweet shops and gift shops that also ship. The courier half needs Shiprocket connected.
Buyers never see a menu of delivery companies. They see one charge and one promise, which is what keeps checkout short.
How is the rider charge worked out at checkout?
Riders are priced from your pickup point to the buyer's address and map pin. At checkout the buyer can tap Use my current locationto drop an exact pin, which gives the most accurate price and saves the rider a phone call. If both Borzo and Shiprocket Quick serve the address, the cheaper serviceable option wins. Borzo uses a vehicle that fits the parcel's weight — a bike for an everyday order, a bigger vehicle when the order is heavy.
What the customer pays is up to you. Keep a flat delivery fee, or charge the partner's quote for that address with an optional packing add-on — for example ₹15 for a cake box. Your free-delivery-above amount still applies. Either way, Borzo or Shiprocket bills the actual rider charge to your own account, and Storzu takes no cut.
What happens after I book the rider?
- The customer gets a live tracking linkto follow the rider, so the "where is it?" calls stop.
- Borzo's expected arrival time shows on the order, so you can answer "how long?" without calling anyone.
- Status updates arrive by themselvesonce you add Storzu's callback URL in your Borzo account; Storzu also checks on its own as a backstop.
Which businesses does same-day delivery suit?
- Restaurants, cafés and cloud kitchens — your own ordering website with riders, without an aggregator's commission on the food.
- Grocery and kirana — the evening top-up order that has to arrive before dinner. See the grocery delivery guide.
- Home bakers and sweet shops — a cake survives one direct rider trip far better than a night in a courier hub.
- Florists and gift shops — birthdays and anniversaries are remembered on the day.
- Dairy, fruit and vegetable sellers— anything that will not keep for a courier's timeline.
What limits should I plan around?
- Coverage depends on the provider. Borzo and Shiprocket Quick run in the cities where they have riders — mostly larger ones. Check your area in their apps before you promise anything on your store.
- Riders are for nearby addresses. Across town may work; another city does not.
- Never promise rider COD.Take UPI before the rider leaves; it also ends the "I'll pay when it comes" no-show.
- Pack for a bike. Sealed containers for gravies, a flat base for cakes, and a sleeve for bouquets — riders brake hard.
- Publish a cut-off."Order by 6pm for same-day" protects your kitchen and sets the buyer's expectation.
When is same-day delivery the wrong choice?
If most of your buyers are in other cities, riders add little — a Shiprocket courier connection does more. If your orders are small and the rider charge would eat the margin, set a minimum order or a free-delivery threshold first. And if your customers live within walking distance, the cheapest same-day delivery is no delivery at all — local pickup.
What to do next
Start with the setting, not the sign-ups: decide whether you want riders only or riders nearby with couriers farther, then connect the service that covers your city. Create your Storzu store, pin your shop on the map, and connect Borzo or Shiprocket from the Shipping page. To bring nearby buyers in, a location-targeted Facebook or Instagram ad pairs naturally with same-day delivery.
