How can a small business run Facebook, Instagram and Google Shopping ads from its online store?

By Storzu·

Quick answer

Connect Facebook and Instagram with Meta's business login, and Storzu syncs your catalog and installs the Meta Pixel and Conversions API. On Google, Storzu sets up Merchant Center so products can appear in free listings, then you can add Performance Max or Shopping ads. Meta and Google bill ad spend to your own accounts; Storzu takes no cut.

Most small stores run ads the hard way. Someone boosts a post, someone else tries Ads Manager, nobody installs the pixel properly, and a month later nobody can say which dollars produced which orders. The ad platforms are not the hard part. The plumbing is: a product catalog, purchase tracking, and a feed Google will accept. Storzu sets that plumbing up from your store, and you run the ads from the same dashboard as your orders.

The short answer

  1. Facebook and Instagram:connect with Meta's business login, pick your own ad account, Page and Instagram account. Storzu syncs your catalog and installs the Meta Pixel and Conversions API.
  2. Launch an ad: single product, carousel, Advantage+ catalog or click-to-WhatsApp, with AI-drafted copy.
  3. Google: start free listings. Storzu sets up Merchant Center for your store and submits your products automatically.
  4. Optional Google Ads: Performance Max or Standard Shopping in your own Google Ads account.
  5. Watch and adjust: results in your dashboard, and pause or stop anything at any time.

What gets set up on Facebook and Instagram

  • A product catalog, kept in sync. Storzu creates the catalog on Meta from your store, so a new product or price change does not need a manual upload. Photos are converted to JPEG for Meta automatically.
  • The Meta Pixel and Conversions API.The pixel reports from the shopper's browser; the Conversions API reports from the server, so a purchase still counts when a browser blocks tracking. That is what lets you judge an ad by orders rather than likes, and lets Meta show sales ads to people likely to buy.

Everything runs in your own Meta accounts. You can open the same campaigns in Meta Ads Manager whenever you want the full reports.

Which Facebook and Instagram ad should I run?

Ad typeWhat it doesUse it when
Single productOne product photo, headline and buttonYou have a clear bestseller or a new arrival
Carousel2–10 swipeable products, each with its priceYou are promoting a collection or a drop
Advantage+ catalogMeta picks which of your products to show each personYou have a wider catalog and some sales history
Click-to-WhatsAppThe button opens a WhatsApp chat with youYour customers already message you on WhatsApp

AI drafts the ad copy from your product details, and you can edit it before publishing. Buttons are Shop now, Order now, Buy now, Book now or Learn more. You choose where the ad shows, a daily budget, and a run of 3, 7, 14 or 30 days or until you stop it. Spend, reach, clicks and purchases appear in your dashboard, and you can pause, resume or delete the ad from there. Pausing or stopping spend is never locked.

Instagram and Facebook Shop, without ads

If you post regularly, start here. The Instagram & Facebook Shop page syncs your catalog to Meta so you can tag products in your posts, and it costs nothing in ad spend. Storzu shows Meta's review status for the catalog, so you can see which products are approved before you start tagging.

Getting on Google: free listings first, ads second

Google lets merchants show products for free in the Shopping tab and other Google surfaces. The usual obstacle is setup: a Merchant Center account, a verified website and a product feed. Storzu sets up a Merchant Center account for your store under Storzu's own Merchant Center and submits your products automatically. A store on a yourname.storzu.com address needs no domain verification at all.

Google reviews products before showing them, and approval takes time. Clear titles (product type first, then material, color and size), clean photos with no text overlays, and prices that match the product page do most of the work. Products must be approved in your free listing before a paid campaign can use them.

When you are ready to pay for more visibility, there are two campaign types:

  • Performance Max. Google builds the ads from your product feed and shows them across Search, Shopping, YouTube, Gmail, Display and Maps. You design nothing. Give it a week or two to learn before judging it.
  • Standard Shopping. Product ads on the Shopping tab and in Search, paid per click, with an optional maximum cost per click.

Target the whole country, a radius around your store of 5, 10, 25 or 50 km (about 3 to 31 miles), or chosen cities and areas. Set a daily budget and run for 7, 14 or 30 days or until stopped. The purchase-conversion tag is set up automatically, so results show orders as well as clicks. Pause, resume or remove campaigns from your dashboard.

What should a small store budget?

General arithmetic, not a Storzu price. Start with one test at roughly $10–$20 a day for a week, on one channel, before spreading thin. Work out what a click is worth: if about 1 in 40 visitors buys and an order earns you $30 after costs, a click is worth about 75 cents, so a maximum cost per click above that loses money on average. Raise budgets gradually on what produces orders, and stop what does not.

What this does not do

  • Advanced campaign work. Ads are built from your product photos and keep the settings simple. For detailed audiences, split tests, lead forms or video-first creative, use Meta Ads Manager or Google Ads directly.
  • Your Google Business Profile. Storzu does not manage your Maps listing. Set that up with Google and add your store link as the website.
  • Guarantees. Meta and Google review every ad and listing. Nobody can promise approval, a placement, or a return on spend.
  • Shopping listings for services. Appointments and services do not get Shopping listings. A salon or other booking business is better served by Book now ads on Facebook and Instagram.

What it costs

Storzu takes no commission per order and no cut of ad spend. Meta and Google bill your own accounts directly for whatever budget you set, and free Google listings cost nothing from Google. For which plan includes the ad tools, see US pricing, or start your store and switch on free Google listings before you spend anything.

Frequently asked questions

Who pays for the ads, and does Storzu take a cut?

You set the budget, and Meta and Google bill the ad spend directly to your own ad accounts. Storzu never handles the ad money and takes no percentage of it. For which plan includes the ad tools, see US pricing.

Are Google free listings actually free?

Yes. Google charges nothing for products that show through free listings, including when someone clicks one. Shopping ads and Performance Max are the paid part, billed by Google to your own Google Ads account. Free listings are worth turning on first either way.

What accounts do I need before I start?

For Facebook and Instagram ads: a Facebook Page and a Meta ad account with a payment method, plus your Instagram professional account if you want ads there. For free Google listings: nothing, because Storzu sets up Merchant Center for your store. For paid Google Ads: your own Google Ads account with billing.

Can I tag products on Instagram without paying for ads?

Yes. The Instagram & Facebook Shop page syncs your catalog to Meta so you can tag products in posts, with no ad spend. Storzu shows Meta's review status for the catalog and converts product photos to JPEG automatically, because Meta rejects WebP images.

Does this work for a salon, cleaner or other service business?

Partly. Product catalogs, catalog ads and Google Shopping are for physical products, so a service business does not use those. It can still run Facebook and Instagram ads with a Book now button that take people to the service on its site.
